St. Ives Mixing Bar In NYC
When I went to New York City for the #BlogHer18 conference I met my friend Claudia from Trendy Latina at our hotel. We were going to attend a press event and she invited me to join her at the St. Ives Mixing Bar to check out their products.
From the minute I walked in and saw the green wall full of lush greens and fresh fruits and vegetables, I knew I would love it there.
What Is St. Ives Mixing Bar?
You can purchase products that are already mixed and packaged or you can design your own facial and body products. You can make a face scrub, face moisturizer, or body lotion.
To customize your products, you take a menu from the mixing bar and bring it over to the sink stations. From there you can smell, feel, and even sample some of the products on your own skin. This way you can decide which ingredients you like most, the fragrance you want, and how deep of an exfoliant you need.
First you decide on how deep of an exfoliant you want for your scrub:
- Deep
- Moderate
- Gentle
Then you select an exfoliant:
- Walnut shell powder
- Volcanic sand
- Apricot stone
Last, you choose the ingredient your skin will love:
- Cucumber kale
- Avocado honey
- Watermelon agave
- Pineapple mango
- Aloe rose water
- Pink grapefruit yuzu
- Green apple kiwi
- Guava tangerine
When you bring your recipe card up to the mixing bar, they will mix all the ingredients together right in front of you so you can watch the process. Then they blend it all together in a NinjaChef blender and place them into your own custom labeled container.
Why Visit St. Ives Mixing Bar?
Why not?? This place was so much fun! The prices for each customized creation was also very affordable. For just $12 I have my own all natural, personally customized exfoliant facial scrub and the contents were still warm when they handed me my products! Talk about freshly made!
I also loved the other activities you could do within the store while waiting for your recipe to be made. They have a fun photo booth where you can share your photos online and tag St. Ives @sttivesskin and #sttivesmixingbar. And you can also visit their vending machine to receive a free sample product after completing a short questionnaire.
I definitely plan to come back. I told my mom this would be a fun thing to do next time we take a trip down to New York City! It’s very affordable, the products are something we use daily anyway and it would be a fun activity to do together!

I must check it out next time I’m in NYC!
It’s sooo much fun! And the price is really great! And if you go there and do it; but know you won’t be back soon, you can always purchase your mixture online as well!
It’s really so much fun! I am going to make sure I visit it again before Christmas!
This is a cool place. I love the idea of mixing your own body lotion and scrub. Not everyone likes the same scent or moisture leave so this is a wonderful idea. I will have to check this place out next time I’m in NYC.
Oh wow! I’d love to do this!
It’s a great gift idea if you are visiting someone who is hosting you in their home. Kind of like having a nice bottle of wine for them. Have a lotion made for them instead!
This is a very interesting post! I like your short movie. It is very convenient that you can try different means. And of course it’s very important that all products are natural!
Thank you Constance! I really enjoy making movies! But I really enjoyed visiting the store and making my own products.
That’s looks great. I haven’t tired St. Ives in years. Might be time to revisit!
You’ll love it! And you can also order online!
Okay this is really cool how can you piece together your very own formula!
This sounds like my kind of experience! I love NYC and I’m a huge fan of DIY skincare! I want to goooo! It’s always so difficult to find exactly what I’m looking for in a product that I would be downright giddy to be able to make up exactly what I know I like with ingredients I need. Thank you for sharing all of this. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled the next time I’m headed up to the city!
You are going to LOVE IT! It’s in the Flatiron district. It’s very easy to get to and right on 5th Avenue. If you go, I’d love to hear what you think!
I definitely NEED to make a trip- we’ll say I miss the city but my secret motivation will be St. Ives! haha! Don’t tell my husband. 🙂
St. Ives has such amazing products. Looks like the event was a fun one.
Love your post! Such a great place!
Thank you! It was fun being there with you! Thanks for recommending it!
This sounds like so much fun. I love St. Ive’s products so I would be right at home at their mixing bar. I want to make a deep ,volcanic sand, pineapple mango scrub! I hope they make more bars across the country!
That would be a huge win for them if they did! I would think that maybe one in an airport would be fun!
That’s great, I am all for natural products. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome! It smells so good you almost want to eat the lip scrubs!
This is a brilliant idea.St.Eves mixing bar sounds perfect for DIY gifts for me and my sister. I wonder how they came up with this idea !
That’s a great question! If I can speak to someone within the organization I’ll ask them.
Ooohh! Sounds interesting! When I had breakouts, St. Ives really helped my face a lot. And if I get to experience making my own, that would be awesome!
Remember, if you can’t make it to the store in person, you can order online! The link is in my blog post.
Thats something new for me. A mixing bar is a different idea and must be fun trying different products. Must be a great experience.
It is a very fun experience! The way the products smell and feel after they are made are amazing. It makes me happy each night when I use the facial cleanser and in the morning when I put on my moisturizer and body lotion!
Thanks for showing this NYC gal the ropes! I must give this shot next time I’m in the city. 😀
Bern new York city a lot. Loving this place. What a great idea that you can personalise and Taylor make your products x
What a fantastic place and such good value! I’ve always been a fan of St Ives products.
This should be how products for the largest organ of our body-the skin, ought to be made, isn’t it? Freshly pressed!
In India, this was and is how some of the beauty products in Ayurveda is made. But then, sadly, people prefer packaged chemicals over these natural products.
I am so glad that this is being implemented there…Hope you get to try many more products of them 🙂
