In “Frozen 2,” the answer to why Elsa was born with magical powers is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she sets out on a dangerous but remarkable journey.

In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In the highly anticipated sequel, she must hope they are enough. From the Academy Award®-winning team—directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho and songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez—“Frozen 2” features the voices of Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad.

The girls and I have absolutely fallen in love with the new story, songs, and characters of Frozen 2, and we’ve spotted quite a few lessons along the way, too! It’s the best family movie, and it’s perfect for everyone, young and old(er).

Frozen 2 has become quite special to us since it was the first movie Elydia watched in theatres.

This spectacular Disney film drives the message home of sisterly love, being compassionate, loving, and courageous enough to work together, celebrating the diversity in power, along with so many other lessons. I am so excited to watch it again!

The film stars Kristen Bell (“The Good Place,” “Veronica Mars”), Idina Menzel (Broadway’s “Rent” and “Wicked,” “Uncut Gems”), Josh Gad (Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon,” “Little Monsters”) and Jonathan Groff (Broadway’s “Spring Awakening” and “Hamilton,” “Mindhunter”) return to Arendelle as the voices of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff, respectively. Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld,” “Mildred Pierce,” “The Wrestler”) joins the cast as Queen Iduna, Anna and Elsa’s mother, and Sterling K. Brown (“Waves,” “Black Panther,” “This Is Us,”) portrays Lieutenant Destin Mattias. The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Tarzan,” “Surfs Up”) and Jennifer Lee (Walt Disney Animation Studios’ chief creative officer, writer/director “Frozen,” writer “Frozen” Broadway, screenwriter “A Wrinkle in Time”).

Lee also wrote the screenplay. The film is produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “The Princess and the Frog”) and executive produced by Byron Howard (“Zootopia”). Songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“Frozen” film/Broadway, Off-Broadway’s “In Transit”) and Robert Lopez (“Frozen” film/Broadway, Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon”) wrote seven all-new original songs for the film, and Christophe Beck, who scored “Frozen,” composed the score.

2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge

2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge – Part 2

If you read part 1 of my Goofy Challenge experience, this is a continuation of the 2020 runDisney marathon weekend. I was running the half marathon and the full marathon as a fundraiser for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

During the race weekend, I arrived a little earlier to give myself some time to go to the expo, attend a Cigna media event and to attend a few meet ups before the races began.

Cigna Media Event

Know Your Numbers

Every year for the runDisney Marathon weekend, Cigna, the presenting sponsor of the runDisney marathon weekend, has a meetup and event for bloggers and the media to attend. Their goal is to share the news to runners and spectators visiting the runDisney expo, that they can get free health screenings with the Cigna Health Improvement Tour.

Cigna’s Health Improvement Tour is a mobile clinic that travels around the country offering free health screening and coaching. They offer screening for four health numbers:

  • blood pressure
  • cholesterol
  • blood sugar
  • BMI

While this isn’t a replacement to your visit to your doctor, it does give you a snapshot of your current health numbers. It’s important to know your numbers so you can take measures to improve them; or continue to do what you are doing to keep them within the normal range.

What I Learned From The Pros

Cigna invited Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee and former NFL running back and philanthropist Warrick Dunn to share their approach to well-being and reaching health goals. Jackie and Warrick were also participants and guides during some of the races.

2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge Part 2

I got a lot of helpful information from what they shared with the audience regarding their challenges in sports and every day life. Just because they are professional athletes, they aren’t immune to the same challenges that we face, both mentally and physically.

Here are a few of the golden nuggets of advice that I took away from what they shared:

  • Surround yourself with mentors
  • Tell yourself you deserve to be here
  • Don’t worry about the things you cannot control
  • Give back – be a part of the solution
  • FOCUS – Focus on the goals you set for yourself
  • Know your body. What happens when there is a day where you don’t feel it? Sometimes you have to take a day off to address what is going on; otherwise, you may end up missing more than a day if you push too hard and hurt yourself.

I was feeling concerned about the warm weather that was in the forecast for both the half marathon and marathon days. But like Joyce said, you can’t worry about the things you cannot control; but I can take control and make sure to hydrate the days prior to the races.

After their presentation, Cigna had a nice lunch for us and then we had an opportunity for photos with Jackie and Warrick. I visited with a few runner friends and then took a stroll over to the Floridian for a refreshing beverage from the new Enchanted Rose Lounge.

Grand Floridian Enchanted Rose

I had been there in December during my agency training; but I really wanted to sit and enjoy the atmosphere while I was there. I also ordered the perfect drink to help keep me hydrated, the
B&B – Fresh Brewed Twinings of London® Iced Tea, Lemon, Blueberry, and Basil.

2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge Part 2

runDisney Race Expo

After enjoying my delicious drink and the view at the Floridian, I did a little shopping at Basin and then I drove over to the race expo to see the runDisney merchandise. When I went to pick up my bib the night before, it was close to closing time, so I didn’t have enough time to check out the merchandise.

This year runDisney had cute spirit jerseys. I had to choose between the navy blue and the purple jersey. Since purple is one of my favorite colors I went with that. I also picked up my traditional wine glass, magnet, key chain, and an “I Did It” shirt.

I had just enough time to grab a picture with Goofy before I went back to my hotel to change for dinner.

Pre-Race Dinner

I met up with my friend Nick for dinner with several others from his running group, some of whom I already knew. We had a nice dinner at Trattoria al Forno on the Boardwalk.

runDisney Challenge Trainers Group Dinner

I was pleasantly surprised that the pasta with bolognese sauce was very delicious for being a gluten free pasta. That’s been a challenge for me to find back home. It was a very delicious meal, and even the gluten free bread with butter was tasty.

After dinner I dropped Nick, Justin and Tom off at the new Gran Destino Tower. It was my goal to be in bed by 9:00; but I had missed it by a little bit. I laid out my clothes for the race, talked to the family via FaceTime and then got to sleep for my 2:30 wake up.

Follow along for Part 3 – the half marathon of my 2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge races, coming soon!

Focus

FOCUS – My Word For 2020

It took me some time this year to find my word for the year. But once it jumped out at me, it was crystal clear that this is my word. FOCUS is my word for the year 2020. I prefer to pick words that can be an action word and also a noun. In past years my words were Explore, Believe, Joy, Grow, and Challenge. I have a lot to FOCUS on this year and I’m excited for what my future holds.

What Am I Going To Focus On In 2020?

I Am Going To Focus On My Personal Growth

Last year I had the pleasure of going to NYC to see Gabby Bernstein for her Super Attractor Book Launch. I loved it! This year I am going to see Oprah during her “Oprah’s 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus ” tour in NYC. with Claudia. I cannot WAIT to hear what will be shared during that event.

Last year when I was on the Oprah’s Girlfriends’ Getaway Cruise, I LOVED her live show that we attended on the ship. The message was just what I needed to hear, and I know this event will also provide me with the wisdom to help me grow during the year 2020.

Focus My Word For 2020

I think it’s pretty cool that the word I chose aligns with the year “2020” and also relates to vision and how vision is considered perfect when you have 20/20 vision. Also, ironically, the name of Oprah’s tour also lines up with my word. It was not intentional at all. I just felt that the word FOCUS was relevant to me.

I Am Going To Focus On My Running

My next race is the NYC Half Marathon. I am so excited that I was selected in the lottery for this race. I will run through Time Square and along the streets of NYC once again! The NYC Marathon was one of my favorite marathons. In 2017 I ran it, and I am waiting to hear of I get selected again to run it this year!

Focus - My Word For 2020

Since my nutrition has improved greatly, and I’ve lose almost 20 pounds, my running has also improved. I am getting faster, so I am hoping that will help me achieve a half marathon finish time of 2:30 or less. It would be great if I could reach that goal for the NYC half marathon! If not, I will be sure to run more half marathons during the spring and summer to get to that goal.

Several of my friends have also expressed an interest in running, especially running a runDisney race. I’d like to put together a group and help them with their training and register for either the Wine & Dine race weekend or next January’s race weekend.

I Am Going To Focus On My Health

Doctor Appointments

I am manifesting a life that’s healthier, both in mind and body! This year I started off the year with my appointments to see my dentist, dermatologist, and I’m in the processing making my mammogram and eye doctor appointments.

It’s time to make sure everything is the way it should be. My dermatologist found a basal cell carcinoma and I’ll be having that taken care of in a few weeks. Along with our mammograms, I think going to the dermatologist is one of our most important visits. Especially for runners, who are out in the elements all throughout the year.

I will be trying something new this year. Because I have been struggling with several migraines related to perimenopause, I want to try acupuncture with my doctors at Modern Health & Wellness. I’d like to take an integrative medical approach to the problem rather than treating it with drugs.

Nutrition

I have been seeing Dr. Jen for my nutrition and gut health and I have successfully lost 18 pounds since I began working with her. It wasn’t a dramatic, quick weight loss. It has been done without measuring out foods or fad dieting. She tested me for IgG Reactivity to foods.

Once we determined which foods cause inflammation in my body, we eliminated them, and added a probiotic and pre-biotic to my daily routine and I feel so much better! The weight loss is a side effect from all of the healthy changes I am making to my body!

It’s also important to know more about nutrition and what causes the inflammation. For instance, eating animal proteins does cause inflammation because it is harder for your intestines to break down those animal proteins. So I am eating more plant based proteins like legumes and nuts to get my protein in my diet.

With this new change, my blood tests have come back with significant improvement in my cholesterol! I am so excited for what this change has done for me. I feel better, my body is reaping the benefits from it and my family is also adapting some of my changes into their daily lives.

Focus - My Word For 2020

I Am Going To Focus On My Business Growth

The year is already starting off great! I have some SMART business goals for the year. I want to grow my blog traffic so that I can partner with mediavine for advertising. I am focusing on my Facebook Group – Wife Mother Runner to share my health and wellness journey and findings with my followers. And I want to do more photography work.

I am hoping to partner with more brands, to travel, and to provide knowledge on great places to travel, eat and share experiences with families. I want to educate my audience on products I love, systems that have been instrumental in my success, and stories that have helped me grow in all areas of my life.

I also have a goal to help families plan their vacations and make their dreams come true to travel by promoting more travel content for my travel agency. I wear a lot of different hats; but I’m trying to find out what really fuels my passion. I love technology, travel, fashion and fitness.

2020 Is Going To Be A Great Year!

I started off the year completing the Goofy Challenge, I am starting the second month of the year with the Oprah’s 2020 Vision Tour, and I’ll be starting off March with a 5 day mastermind cruise. That’s a strong start for the first quarter of the year!

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for me, too! Do you have a word for the year? I’d love to hear what it is! Leave a comment or visit my Facebook Group and share your word there!

runDisney Goofy Challenge-expo

2020 runDisney Goofy Challenge – Part 1

This year was the first year I was doing the runDisney Goofy Challenge alone, no Dopey Challenge, and no additional races. Five years ago when I did my first Dopey Challenge, Goofy was included in it. But I always felt that my first Goofy Challenge didn’t receive the fanfare it deserved because it was grouped in with Dopey.

I’ll share my experiences with my first Goofy Challenge and what I think about my future with running the runDisney Races

Day 1 – Arrival and Expo Day

After the first of the year rolls around, my nerves kick in. I had done my last training run which was 16 miles on December 27. I like to train a little farther than that; but my schedule didn’t allow for it this year.

Packing and Travel

The kids were heading back to school, I had work to do and I needed to start packing. I was watching the weather and it was calling for warmer weather this year. Instead of packing for every possible weather condition, like I usually recommend, I was packing for the heat.

I made a Donald costume for the half several years ago; but never wore it with the feather skirt yet. I packed it, just in case. I knew that I could always unpin all of the feathers before or during the race if they were too hot.

runDisney Goofy Challenge

If you can arrive to Orlando a day or two prior to your races, that is always best. This allows you time to get to the expo for your race bib(s), get situated at your hotel and acclimated a little bit to the weather. It also gives you time to rest a little before the races begin.

When I run the Dopey Challenge, the races begin on Thursday and I fly in on Wednesday. This year my first race was Saturday so I flew in on Thursday evening. That was helpful to me to allow me a little time prior to the races beginning, to visit friends, prepare for the races, and attend the Cigna Media Event (more on that soon)!

Race Taper

The three weeks prior to the race is considered the taper time. This time can be nerve wracking because you do not have a long training run on the schedule, you are working at staying healthy, and it’s mostly a time of rest prior to the race. This is when the old expression “the hay is in the barn”, comes into play. The training has been done and now you can relax knowing all your hard work will be utilized on race day.

Mental Preparation

Now is the time to overcome your nerves with positive talk and meditation. I especially had to use this time to rely on friends, family and my past to remember that I have done this before and I know what to do. I’ve done five consecutive Dopey Challenges, and seven consecutive Walt Disney World Marathons. I knew I could finish the race. I may not have the fastest race time; but I wanted to have fun.

I discussed a strategy for race day with my friends Amy and Jason Chase. We came up with a good plan for the race and it put all of us at ease going forward. Our plan was to enjoy the races and have fun. We didn’t want to stress over it. We knew we could finish and we wanted to have fun doing so!

runDisney Goofy Challenge Race Expo

After my flight arrived in Orlando, I grabbed my rental car and drove to the expo first. I arrived 30 minutes before they closed, picked up my bib, my shirts and visited with Jeff Galloway. It’s tradition for me to get his signature on my bib before any race that he is at.

runDisney Goofy Challenge

Since I arrived late in the evening, I didn’t have time to visit the runDisney merchandise area. I planned to come back to check out the new merchandise during a different afternoon.

Quick Tip!: If you aren’t one of those individuals who has to have the newest runDisney merchandise and wait for them to open the doors on the morning the expo begins, then you will have a better experience if you attend the expo in the afternoon. When I do this the lines are shorter and I can get in and out much quicker.

Day 1 of the race weekend was an easy day, I grabbed some sushi for dinner from Katsura Grill in Epcot and wandered around the Morocco pavilion when no one else was around! Then I checked into my hotel and began to lay out my gear for the weekend.

runDisney Goofy Challenge

Follow my journey through the rest of the weekend, with the Cigna Media event and a team dinner next!

Do you want to run a runDisney race with me?

Are you interested in a runDisney race? I’m putting a group together for the runDisney Wine & Dine race weekend if you want to join! Visit my facebook page for more info!

Goofy Challenge 13 Mile Training Run

As December is coming to a close, so are the training days towards the 2020 Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. I have to get in more long training runs towards my Goofy Challenge training. I just completed my goofy challenge 13 mile training run on December 15 and I will be doing a 16 mile training run soon.

13 Mile Training Run Breakdown

Miles 1-5

The fist few miles are always the hardest. During this run, the sun had just come out and it was a very pleasant day. I had been struggling with 2 migraines in a row but still wanted to get out and accomplish this run.

Miles 5-8

By mile 4 and 5 I was enjoying the scenery and being outside. I was feeling strong and intended to get as many miles done that I could, even if that meant finishing in the dark. I knew it would happen because I had a late start due to those migraines.

Miles 8-10

Around mile 8 I was in a groove. I was enjoying the podcasts I was listening to – “The Perfect Movie“, and I had a good pace going (12:30/per mile). I knew I still had 5 miles to go; but I also made a deal with myself that I could walk the last 3 miles if I needed to. I chose the last 3 miles because I had done 10 miles on my previous long run. So I was adding 3 miles to my last training run.

Miles 10-13

At mile 10, I knew I’d have to run around the block a few times. This would allow me to end in the neighborhood near my house and not have to worry about heavy traffic in the dark. I continued to run all of the miles and walked the very last mile. I probably could have run it; but I chose to walk.

Half Marathon Distance Achieved

I know that I can finish the half marathon without issues during the race weekend. We usually run miles 1-10 and walk in the last 3-4 miles to conserve our legs for the marathon the next day. I always get nervous before my long runs. I tend to think about them during the days leading up to it. Then the day of the run, I tend to stall a little before I get out there. But I always complete the run, and I need to remember that.

What’s Next

My training plan requires a few more long training runs. Last year I trained a bit less than I wanted to. I also remember feeling very strong for my races last year. So despite the lower mileage during training, I don’t feel that it caused me to have a bad race.

As I prepare for this training run, I prepare for it mentally, as much as I do physically. I think of the route I want to take, I visualize the roads and know the level of effort that is required for each section of my route.

I am also thinking of the reward I want to give myself for completing this run. I’m looking forward to having a game night or a movie night with my family with little guilt for sitting around.

How’s your training going? Do you have any long runs left? How do you feel about race day?

Maskcara

I love makeup! I almost never leave the house without makeup. Maskcara makeup is a new line of makeup I am trying. It helps you apply makeup with highlights and contouring with a 4 tin compact that consists of a highlight, contour, blush and illuminator.

With this line of makeup, you will receive specific color match results for your complexion from a Maskcara makeup artist. Then you build out your own palette based on your recommendations.

Revlon Hair Dryer

I have extremely curly hair; but I like to wear it straight. The BEST hair dryer I have found to help me blow out my hair straight so I don’t have to use the flat iron as much is the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer. When I bought this before the Oprah Cruise, all of my cabin mates used it and loved it, too!

Books

Super Attractor

Some of my favorite books I have been reading this year are from Gabby Bernstein. I had the pleasure of going to Gabby’s Perfect Attractor Book Launch in September, and I loved it! I have been implementing some of her advice in my own life.

Parenting beyond the Rules: Raising Teens with Confidence and Joy

My kids are approaching their teen years and Connie’s book is an amazing book to help guide me into these years. Connie’s book shares how to connect with your teen on a heart level. She encourages you to be a good listener. She honestly shares that there will be ups and downs.

This is going to be a guidebook for the upcoming years and changes to the dynamic my family will face as our children grow older and find their ways.

Giveaway alert! If you’d like to receive a copy of Gabby’s newest book Super Attractor, or Connie’s Book, Parenting beyond the Rules: Raising Teens with Confidence and Joy, please complete the giveaway form below!

In addition to the hard copy of the books I have been reading above, I have been listening to books via Audible. I like to listen to the books while driving, working, and even in the shower!
